iPhone 15 Pro Max USB-C Port Controller Failure
Problem
The customer's iPhone 15 Pro Max presented with intermittent charging, then complete failure of the USB-C port to recognise any cable. Diagnostic tools revealed a damaged FPC connector on the main logic board, specifically affecting the USB-C controller IC. This component failure was likely due to repeated stress from forceful cable insertions, impacting data transfer critical for his work.
Fix Applied
Initial diagnosis confirmed FPC connector damage on the iPhone 15 Pro Max logic board. Using a hot air rework station and specialised micro-soldering tools, the faulty FPC connector was carefully de-soldered. A new, genuine replacement FPC connector was then precisely aligned and re-soldered onto the logic board. The USB-C port assembly was thoroughly cleaned and retested for continuity and data transfer.
Result
The iPhone 15 Pro Max charging and data transfer functionality was fully restored. Post-repair, comprehensive testing verified stable charging, high-speed data transfer, and accessory recognition. A 12-month warranty was provided.
