iPhone 15 USB-C Port Controller Failure Analysis
Problem
iPhone 15 USB-C port suddenly stopped functioning for data transfer and charging. Diagnostic indicated U2 Tristar IC (CD3218) failure, likely from voltage spike. This rendered the iPhone 15 unable to connect to peripherals or charge via cable, severely impacting the engineer's work which relied on data sync for crucial project files and daily operations, causing significant disruption.
Fix Applied
The faulty CD3218 power delivery chip on the iPhone 15's logic board required microsoldering replacement. We meticulously desoldered the damaged component using a hot air station, cleaned the pads, and installed a new OEM-spec CD3218. Post-replacement, voltage stability and data line integrity were verified with a multimeter before reassembly of the iPhone 15, ensuring complete functionality.
Result
USB-C port functionality on the iPhone 15 was fully restored. All charging and data transfer capabilities were rigorously tested and confirmed. Ajay’s workflow was back on track. A 12-month warranty covers the replaced component and labour.
