iPhone 16 Plus Display Driver IC Malfunction
Problem
The customer’s iPhone 16 Plus exhibited intermittent display flickering and horizontal lines after a minor drop. Diagnostic showed the OLED panel itself was intact, but the integrated display driver IC, specifically the U7000 chip, was sending corrupted signals. This logic board level component failure, critical for the iPhone 16 Plus's larger display, rendered the device almost unusable for coding tasks, impacting his ability to work remotely and collaborate effectively.
Fix Applied
Our technician initiated the repair by carefully separating the iPhone 16 Plus Ceramic Shield display at 85°C. Using a micro-soldering station, the faulty U7000 display driver IC was desoldered from the logic board. A new, genuine-grade U7000 IC was then meticulously soldered into place. Post-replacement, the board was retested for continuity and signal integrity before reassembly. The A18 chip thermal paste was also checked and reapplied.
Result
The iPhone 16 Plus display functionality was fully restored, with no flickering or lines. All touch, True Tone, and Face ID functions were verified. The device was returned within 45 minutes, backed by a 12-month warranty.
